The Open Sea Is Unlocked! Plus new goals are open.
5 months ago – Tue, May 05, 2026 at 07:18:34 AM

Hi everyone!

We’ve officially reached the halfway point of the campaign! I wanted continue to thank you all again for the support you’ve shown Roadside Encounters so far. It so exciting to watch a project grow, and we’re thrilled to see all the people helping to keep the momentum going.

Over the weekend, we crossed another major milestone and unlocked a brand new deck!

The Open Sea Is Unlocked

Our newest unlocked deck is The Open Sea. This deck takes the same core idea behind Roadside Encounters and brings it onto the water, making it a great fit for both sea voyages and river travel. Expect merchants, strange ships, hazards on the water, and creatures from the deep, along with all the adventure and opportunity that can come from travel far from shore.

Where the Lineup Stands Now

With The Open Sea unlocked, the Roadside Encounters line has continued to grow well beyond where it started. We now have a 8 deck options in total! Covering everything from settled roads and haunted paths to festivals, lost trails, and now travel by water.

We also previously unlocked Bonus Cards, which means every deck in the lineup now includes 45 cards instead of 40. That added value applies across the full line and makes each deck even more useful at the table.

New Stretch Goals Added

Now that The Open Sea has joined the campaign, I’ve added two new stretch goals to keep the road ahead looking exciting.

$45,000. Weather Effects PDF

This digital bonus will come in a PDF format to all backers. And will include weather effects (broken down by biome) for travel. Adding storms, fog, heat, cold, and other conditions to that will make adventures even more dynamic.

$55,000. The Silk Road

Merchant caravans, exotic goods, hired guards, trade disputes, and wealthy travelers bring profit, intrigue, and opportunity to the journey.

I’m especially excited about both of these because they open up very different kinds of travel play. One adds another useful tool for every backer, while the other pushes the deck line into a new style of travel encounter with a strong merchant and trade focus.

Tell Us in the Comments

Now that The Open Sea is part of the campaign, we’d love to hear from you.

What would you most want your party to run into on the water? A suspicious merchant vessel? A drifting wreck? Smugglers? Something BIG moving below the surface? Tell us in the comments. We always enjoy seeing what kinds of encounters people are already imagining for the decks.

As we head into the second half of the campaign, sharing matters more than ever. If you’ve been enjoying what Roadside Encounters has become so far, please keep spreading the word to your group, your GM, or anyone else you know who loves tabletop RPGs.

Every share helps us reach new backers, unlock more stretch goals, and keep expanding the line.

Thanks again for helping us make the first half of this campaign such a strong one!!

What a First Week for Roadside Encounters!
5 months ago – Tue, Apr 28, 2026 at 07:12:34 AM

Hey everyone!

We’ve officially hit the one week mark on Roadside Encounters! In the first 7 days we've done so much! With over 500 backers, we’ve unlocked a total of 7 deck options, and added bonus cards across the line.

It’s been exciting to watch this project grow over these first week and we’re incredibly grateful to everyone who has backed, commented, shared the campaign.

The Open Sea Is Coming Into View

We’re now quickly chipping away at our next major stretch goal: The Open Sea. We’re getting close, and I’m excited to see this one coming into range.

Help Us Reach the Next Unlock

As always, every share helps. If you’ve been enjoying the campaign so far, please keep sharing it with your group, your GM, or anyone else you know who loves tabletop RPGs. That support is what helps us keep unlocking more decks, more cards, and more tools for the table.

And if you haven’t checked in on the campaign in a few days, now is a great time to take another look at everything that has been added so far.

Thanks again for being part of this project.

7 Decks Unlocked, Bonus Cards Added, and More Ahead
5 months ago – Fri, Apr 24, 2026 at 07:21:50 AM

Hey everyone!

The support for Roadside Encounters over these first few days has been incredible, and we are thrilled with how strongly this campaign has started. As we head into Friday and close out the first stretch of the campaign, I wanted to share a quick update on everything that has happened since our last post.

The Lost Road Unlocked!

Since our last update, we’ve unlocked The Lost Road. This deck is built for adventures that head into the unknown, with forgotten paths leading toward ruins, hidden dungeons, and abandoned places waiting to be explored.

It is a great fit for journeys that feel mysterious and a little dangerous, and it should be especially useful for getting your adventurers into larger set-piece encounters. With this unlock, we’ve now reached 7 deck options, and I’ve added new reward tiers to reflect that.

Bonus Cards Unlocked!

That is not all. Overnight, we also unlocked our Bonus Cards stretch goal. That means every deck in the Roadside Encounters line will now include 45 cards instead of 40.

With 7 decks currently in the lineup, this stretch goal adds 35 new cards total, which is nearly a whole extra deck’s worth of content added to the campaign.

New Stretch Goals Added

After unlocking The Lost Road, we also added new stretch goals. The bonus cards you all unlocked quick! But next up is The Open Sea, deck option, unlocking at $35,000.

This is a a new deck option inspired by one of the most requested ideas in the comments. It's a bit of a departure from the “road” theme, but the concept is the same. The Open Sea is built for travel encounters on sea voyages and river journeys, with merchants, strange ships, and creatures from the depths.

See You in the Comments

Now that the lineup has grown, we’d love to hear from you. Which deck are you most excited about right now? What other options would you love to see?

Tell us in the comments!!

Help Us Keep the Momentum Going

As we head into the weekend, it is more important than ever to keep sharing the campaign. Every share helps us reach new backers, unlock more stretch goals, and expand the line even further.

If you know someone who loves tabletop RPGs, travel encounters, or just wants more easy tools for their game, please send them our way. Thanks again for all the support so far!! We couldn't do it without you.

The Festival Road is Now Unlocked!
5 months ago – Wed, Apr 22, 2026 at 01:25:05 PM

Hey everyone,

We sent an update this morning, but the campaign has kept moving fast and we wanted to share another quick update. Roadside Encounters has already crossed another big milestone and unlocked a brand new deck.

The Festival Road is Unlocked

We’ve officially crossed $15,000, which means we’ve now unlocked our next deck option!

This is one I’ve been especially excited about. The Festival Road opens the door for all kinds of lively and unpredictable moments along the path. Maybe the party comes across a roadside carnival. Maybe a circus animal has escaped. Maybe two parades traveling in opposite directions have blocked the road, and neither side is willing to yield. There's a lot of room in this deck for fun and over-the-(big)top travel encounters, and we think it is going to be a great one.

New Reward Tiers Added

Now that we have 6 decks unlocked, I’ve also added:

  • a 6 Deck physical pledge tier
  • a 6 Deck digital pledge tier

It’s been amazing to unlock so much, so quickly, and we’re thrilled to keep expanding the line with all of you. You can upgrade your pledge by visiting the Kickstarter page.

What’s Next

Next up is The Lost Road, which several of you have already mentioned looking forward to, and we expect to see that one unlocked soon! After that I’ve got some special new stretch goals on the horizon that I’m excited to share.

In the meantime, please keep sharing the campaign, and let’s knock out that next stretch goal soon.

One Day In, Another Deck Unlocked!
5 months ago – Wed, Apr 22, 2026 at 07:24:47 AM

What a first day!! We’re just over 24 hours into the campaign, and we wanted to take a moment to say thank you again for the strong support behind Roadside Encounters. The response so far has been incredible.

Because of that support, we’ve already unlocked another new deck option!

New Deck Unlocked: The High Road

Our newest unlocked deck is The High Road.

This deck is built for more heavily traveled routes and brings in nobles, knights, well-to-do merchants, and the kinds of complications that follow them. It is designed to add more political moments, social tension, and courtly intrigue to your journeys, making it a great fit for campaigns where the journey is shaped as much by status and power as by danger.

More Roads Ahead

We’re also moving quickly toward our next unlock, The Festival Road. We’ll share more on that soon, but I’ll say now that it is one of my personal favorites. There are a lot of fun ideas packed into it, with performers, bards, contests, celebrations, and all the chaos that can come with a spectacle.

Now that The High Road is unlocked, we’d love to hear from you. What would you most want your party to run into on the High Road? A noble procession? A knightly dispute? A merchant with more influence than they first appear to have? Something stranger?

Tell us in the comments. We always enjoy seeing what kinds of encounters people are already imagining for these decks.

Help Us Keep the Road Growing!

If you’ve been enjoying the campaign so far, one of the best ways to help is to share it with your group, your GM, or anyone else who loves TTRPGs. Every share helps us reach more backers, unlock more decks, and keep expanding the roads ahead!

Thanks again for such a strong start to this campaign. We'll have more updates to come soon!
